Arachnophobic Kyle

Free game for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC

Space Robot Kyle needs to remove the spiders from his islands. Kyle and his weapons are powered by batteries, and he uses the sun to recharge. He needs to be careful though. Too much sun and he will overheat. Not enough sun and he will run out of charge. Kyle also needs to avoid the spiders. If they make contact with him his force field will activate - but this also reduces his charge. Better weapons and extra batteries will make his task easier - but only if he can find them!

Capabilities: Single player, HDR10, 4K Ultra HD.

Languages: English, Danish, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Chinese, Korean.

Available now from the Microsoft Store

Version History

Version 3.8 (18 September 2024)

Improved (smoother) aiming and shooting behaviour. Small change to sky controller to improve performance. New sniggames logo. Bug fixes (prevent player occasionally falling through terrain, stop some enemy projectiles going through maze walls). Updated to Unity 2022.3.46f1 LTS.

Version 3.7 (03 August 2024)

Enemy missiles (shot from spider domes) now track Kyle. Corrected debris visual effects (when projectiles hit enemies or terrain). Small adjustments to lighting and camera system to improve performance and gameplay. Updated to Unity 2022.3.40f1 LTS.

Version 3.6 (16 July 2024)

Kyle's world has doubled in size. With an extra island to defend some teleportation pads have been added to help him get around faster. Some small improvements to lighting, shadows and frame rates have also been made. Updated to Unity 2022.3.37f1 LTS.

Version 3.5 (20 June 2024)

Improved frame rate. Kyle can now blow up some dropped items (e.g. flat batteries). Improved the attack behaviour of enemies when they are inside the maze. Improved camera shake when shooting. Updated shot sounds for some weapons. Updated to Unity 2022.3.33f1 LTS.

Version 3.4 (8 April 2024)

Added visual effect to start of enemy teleports (and removed code which did not allow a teleport to happen if the enemy was in view). Refactored enemy controller (used by all enemy types) to improve performance and maintainability. Improved behaviour of Mimic enemies.

Version 3.3 (14 February 2024)

Added new "mimic" enemy. Improved appearance and operation of Kyle's "stompfield". Replaced bespoke localisation code with Unity localisation package/code and added Korean language support. Updated gamepad and keyboard control overlays to cover all supported languages (not just English)... apologies if some non-English translations are a bit weird (they are straight from Google Translate!).

Version 3.2 (23 November 2023)

Updated to the latest version of Space Robot Kyle. This has a corrected rig which means Kyle can now fly upwards properly, and the new textures make him look even better - thanks Unity! Lots of other small controller, animation and performance tweaks.

As with previous versions of the game, holding down the view button on a gamepad (or F1 on a keyboard) will display a game controls overlay. If a gamepad is detected a gamepad overlay is displayed (otherwise a keyboard overlay is displayed). Starting with this version, if the game is paused (by pressing the menu button on the gamepad or the Esc key on a keyboard) the game controls overlays will also be displayed.

Kyle's eyesight has also been improved radically - he now has eyeballs...

Version 3.1.1 (30 August 2023)

Numerous small tweaks to physics settings, enemy controllers, fixed some code that may have been causing a small memory leak (due to boxing). Some minor performance improvements.

Version 3.1 (12 August 2023)

Small tweaks to sound effects, physics and controller settings to improve game play. Improved appearance of game pad and keyboard/mouse game control information. Some minor performance improvements. Kyle has also decided that he does not like the moon...

Version 3.0 (13 June 2023)

Technical release (upgrade to Unity LTS 2022.3.x). Some minor performance and player controller improvements.

Version 2.9 (20 April 2023)

Tweaked camera setup and player/enemy controllers and animations. Refined water appearance and interactions with it (including with explosions). Some minor performance improvements.

Version 2.8 (1 April 2023)

Improved shooting/strafing viewpoint. Fixed Spidermine behavior (last one left in a wave did not attack Kyle as expected). Numerous small tweaks to improve performance/frame rate.

Version 2.7 (11 February 2023)

Optimised Kyle's controller to improve both performance and playability (particularly when shooting/strafing). Fixed an obscure orb enemy controller bug which caused them to repeatedly teleport (and if this continued for too long it may have then caused the game to crash).

Version 2.6 (18 January 2023)

Minor performance improvements.

Version 2.5 (26 December 2022)

Update to latest versions of Unity and Crest Ocean System. Minor tweaks to enemy patrolling and teleport behaviours. Simplified maze (to reduce likelihood of enemies getting stuck in corners). Added moon to night sky.

Version 2.4 (22 November 2022)

Technical release (upgrade to latest version of Unity. This includes a URP bug fix which may have been the cause of some game crashes in the past). Adjusted shadow settings to remove an unwanted rendering artifact.

Version 2.3 (15 November 2022)

Added teleport whirlpools. Refactored enemy controller code to improve enemy movement and performance.

Version 2.2 (20 October 2022)

Replaced 'maze gun' enemies (as they were a bit boring) with 'hover orb' enemies. Kyle now catches on fire when he overheats. Some memory use and other optimisations.

Version 2.1 (12 September 2022)

Added a bonus (hidden) maze level and a new enemy type (maze gun). Corrected some strange rendering issues and a script execution order problem (which caused random freezes on some consoles). Lots of small optimisations to game code, gameplay and appearance. Restored camera bounce (from weapon recoil).

Version 2.0 (5 July 2022)

Technical release (upgrade to Unity 2021.3). Some minor rendering and performance improvements.

Version 1.9 (17 June 2022)

Improved player and enemy water interaction visuals. Some small memory use and performance improvements.

Version 1.8 (20 May 2022)

Improved hover gun and plasma arc controller code. Bug fix (restored projectile impact sounds that were accidently removed in a previous release). Minor performance improvements.

Version 1.7 (10 May 2022)

Added two extra weapons for Kyle - a hover gun and a plasma arc. Fixed some minor bugs and incorrect translations from English. Tweaked physics to provide minor performance and other improvements.

Version 1.6 (9 April 2022)

Fine tuned animation clips, animation controllers and camera system. Fixed bug accidently introduced in version 1.5 (Kyle's strafing when aiming was not correct). Power suckers now teleport in the same way as other enemies. Some minor performance improvements.

Version 1.5 (13 February 2022)

Added new enemies (Transformer Bot, Power Sucker, Gun Fortress and Laser Fortress), a new weapon (Gatlin Gun) and "extra lives" for Kyle. Removed Xbox Live (XBL) integration (XBL is no longer supported for UWP applications - consequently a login to XBL is no longer mandated and the leaderboard had to be removed). Robot light has been removed, and the island map view has been reassigned to the controller north (Y) button. Some performance, rendering and usability improvements.

Version 1.4 (22 October 2021)

Small performance tweaks. Bug fixes (island map did not render ocean if main camera was underwater, rocket launcher impact, temperature reduction when underwater). Kyle now mutters if bored.

Fixed bug in settings (volume controls now work). Audio performance improvements. Added stars at night.

Version 1.2 (28 July 2021)

Improved performance, physics and animation. Better aiming, dials are hidden if running on low charge, new visual effects e.g. spider portals.

Version 1.1 (26 April 2021)

Improved performance and physics, improved island map, some of the spiders can now fly, 4K UHD support.

Version 1.0 (2 January 2021)

Initial release.

If you choose to use this service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. Any Personal Information we collect is used for providing and improving the service. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

"Arachnophobic Kyle" was built by Sniggames as a free game. It is provided at no cost and is intended for use as is. The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions, which are displayed when Arachnophobic Kyle is first played, unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy.

Information Collection and Use

"Arachnophobic Kyle" was built using a Microsoft framework called Universal Windows Platform (UWP). This enables us to use one process for building the game for running on both Windows and Xbox One. One disadvantage of using UWP however is that when a UWP-built game or app is first loaded on Xbox One, it displays a message asking the user to grant permissions for personal data to be shared with the developer. This screen appears even if the game does not request or collect any personal data. It is simply the default behaviour in UWP and cannot be changed by the developer. If the user grants the permissions, the game will proceed with full functionality - no personal data is collected.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

Our Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time and therefore you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. Notification of any changes will be made by posting a new Privacy Policy on this page. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted on this page.
